Monday Musings

Happy Leap Day!  This is a very rare occurrence having leap day be on a Monday.  I looked at the future dates and see that the next to leap year days are a Saturday and Thursday.  So... needless to say this will be my final Leap Day Monday Musings.  Kinda sad isn't it?

I tried to research why leap day is in February but I started to read something about the Middle Ages and there were lots of numbers involved, so I gave up.  Too taxing on my feeble mind.  My only thought is I wish someone back in the Middle Ages decided to make the extra day in June.  Wouldn't June 31 be better?  I think so.

I took another silly quiz.  It said that the profession I was born for was to be a writer.  Touché!

I saw this yesterday.  I love the English language, but I cannot imagine trying to learn it as a second language.

We have just started to receive milk delivery again!  They come in glass bottles and it is delivered each week to our porch.  Kind of feels like a step back in time.  And not really too since I can change my on-line order up until 10:00 pm the night before and it is sitting frothy and fresh from the cow on my porch before 6:00 the next morning.  Now someone needs to tell the MYP to quit glugging it down so fast.  Might be cheaper to just buy a cow.

Speaking of food, I just love watching Tip Hero or Tasty food videos.  They show up on my Facebook feeder and are fun and have given me some ideas.  I think the Tasty ones up the enthusiasm with an "oh YES!" at the end of the video.  Makes me wonder if the recipe is that good since it seems they are trying to oversell it.

And speaking of food (getting redundant here!).  Son #1 is a bus boy at a local higher-end restaurant.  After him working there for nearly six months we finally took him.  It was fun to see the other wait staff come over and chat with him.  He relished in the fact he was alone with dad and mom and getting to eat a massive amount of ribs.  After I took a humongous bite of the steak I ordered, the waitress came over to see how it was.  I think I looked exactly like this.
Our little friend that is moving away as soon as school is out came over for yesterday.  Thankfully it is only one state south, so we still will see them often.
Well that's enough from me!  Happy week ahead!  And remember on this unique day, 'look before you leap!"  Heh.

Monday Musings

Just kidding! Although it feels like Monday here today.  Yesterday, the MYP had off school. That makes it feel like a holiday.  And Saturday.  And parts of a Sunday.  And "I can't figure out what day it is today".  So back to regular quietness this morning and normal programming.

We were away for the weekend to visit friends.  Unfortunately, I didn't take a family picture.  Or hardly any pictures.  Maybe I was enjoying myself so much.  These people are the kind of friends where you don't have to have that momentary time of reacquaintance.  You just pick up where you left off if it was several months or a year past.  I like that.  Here's a picture of our daughters on the ski hill.

One of our daughter's friends will be moving away in a few months.  It has been heartbreaking for her.  I overheard her say on the phone to her friend, "I just don't want to have to be friendly when we see each other again after you move".  Apparently very close friends don't have to worry about friendliness.  It made me chuckle in spite of the sadness.

We locked up the cat in the house while we were away.  When we got home he meowed like he had a sore throat.  Apparently he must have been calling out for us while we were gone.  I took the following picture about 20 minutes ago.  I am biased because I think they're pretty cute.

The other day I was looking at one of our MYP as they were discussing something with another and I got the 'swelley' feeling in my heart and it literally made me catch my breath.  That feels so wonderful.

Some friends of mine suggested that I join a small group.  The purpose is to eat healthy and help lose weight for the next eight weeks.  At first I was flattered.  Then... wait a minute!  Do you think I'm overweight or eating bad food?  Huh?  Then I heard the finer details.  You really have to cut out wheat and very little dairy.  So I decided I have friends that think I'm chubby and hope I'll fail or at least lie.  Eight weeks without wheat and dairy is setting me up for utter failure.  Thanks anyway!  On a side note, these are actually close friends of mine and they meant no harm.  Or did they?  Heh.

We went into the big city last night to the auto show.  As we walked to the convention center, we stopped at the corner.  As the Chairman and I started to discuss something, some street guy came up to all three of our MYP, lifted up his shirt and showed them his colostomy bag (which was quite full I might add).  He was then begging from them for money.  You should have seen the six googly-moogly eyeballs looking at him and then turning in almost fear looking at us, their parents.  I don't think they'll forget that image for awhile.  Poor man.  But I don't think our dollar will assist him that much.

Well that is enough Musings for today.  I'll post a few things that made me smile this week.  Hope you don't mind me always putting silly stuff at the end!  Happy week ahead!

Monday Musings

You didn't think I'd make it to Muse on Monday did you?  Well considering my history the past couple weeks you may have been right.  But the family is all busy doing homework or reading the paper so the house is quiet enough for me to think of a Muse or two.

Lets see.  Gas prices have plummeted to unheard of low prices and now the prices are starting to creep up.  It's been great for the wallet considering we have three vehicles to fill tanks for and a home to heat.

I was thinking this week that the best place to invest money would be a cardboard manufacturer or the FedEx or UPS companies.  It is crazy how much I see those trucks in the neighborhood.  I must not be alone in doing my shopping on-line rather than driving all over looking for thus and such.

I've been posting pictures of food on Instagram.  Why you ask?  I honestly don't know.  Maybe it is because I'm so uncreative and have no hobbies to show others.  Tonight I posted a picture of these homemade English muffins.
Last week was meatballs with a clever saying about how no one better sneeze so I don't lose my meatballs.
A bit earlier than that said these sweets were for my sweets.
I wonder what I should do next?

A sweet, and sassy teenager here was laughing obnoxiously tonight about my 'job'.  "Ha!  Stay-at-home mom!  Ha!  You have eight hours a day to relax don't you!  You try to look like you've worked hard all day and all you do is rush around right before we get home so it looks like you worked."  Well my sweet schnookims.  The food wouldn't be in the cabinet.  The laundry basket wouldn't be empty.  The homemade bread wouldn't be on the counter.  The house would be knee-deep in upheaval and dirt.  I could go on but I think the readership just may know a bit more than the sweet and sassy teenager that was trying to get my goat.

We had the privilege of having these little cuties come to our house with family for dinner yesterday.
M&M&M
I had a dream the other night.  I was at a big get-together and I was single.  There was a very large crowd of people there that I knew.  But then I saw him.  He was across the way chatting with someone but I just felt like he was looking at me.  I finally decided to leave and as I got outside there he was.  He sat down on a bench near me.  Then he took my hand and smiled and my heart burst with emotion.  I was so happy.  Then I woke up and looked over at the same guy on the other side of my bed with his mouth agape and snoring sounds coming forth.  I'm just so thankful that even in my dreams I still would pick him - snores and all.

We never really celebrate Valentine's Day all that big, but year after year, he always brings me flowers.  I always get him a little something that I remember him saying he needed.  The day of celebration is nice, but the rest of the year is even better.  I snapped this of us last night after the MYP had already gone to bed.  Just us on Valentine's Day 2016.  Middle-aged people with smiles.
So this is enough.

Wednesday Words

Last week my "Musings" were on Tuesday.  This week it is Wednesday.  Who knows?  Maybe in a few weeks I'll be "Musing" on a Saturday?  Or not.  I don't have much to offer today.  But I do have this:

We have a daughter graduating from 8th grade.   Of our three MYP, I think she's changed the most through the years.

We had a tie-blanket project.  She's most pleased with the results.
We celebrated a happy birthday with our friends!

We have a happy daughter with her new "Gerry" mug.
We have a cat that likes a basket.
We have a couple things that made me smile.  The first one was actuality on my walk this week.

We have nothing else.

Tea on a Tuesday

No Musings yesterday.  Sorry for the delay.  I was coming down with a cold.  Itchy-scratchy throat and nose.  You know what I'm talking about.  So I laid low.  Did about 20% of my usual.  Basically just three loads of laundry and a quick vacuum and a couple cat naps that the cat joined me in (fancy that!).  And today I'm feeling some better.

If you ever are wondering how old I am in the years to come, just "Google" what year the Super Bowl is and there you go!

I have the best friends.  I texted that I wouldn't be able to join in a birthday lunch.  And guess what the birthday old lady girl did?  She brought over a puzzle to keep my feeble mind occupied with.  It was a double-edged sword because as good as it was, it was bad.  I cannot stop working on them and so I had all 500 pieces put neatly in their place within 24 hours.  Here's a pic before I finished!
There's a storm brewing - not here unfortunately.  For days they've predicted wild amounts of snow and wind.  Currently, we have a driving rain storm.  I feel like our area has been suddenly moved to Arkansas or South Carolina.  It's been a dud of a winter as far as snow goes.

The slightly amusing part of it was yesterday I made a brief stop at a grocery store and it was swamped with people loading up on bread, eggs, and milk for this (rain) storm.  Silly people.

I was informed my my wise older sister to drink a lot of green tea to fight this virus.  So I did.  In fact, I put some in a glass bottle before I left to hit the grocery store.  As I came out of the restroom carrying my bottle, I had a little private giggle thinking of handing it to someone to hold while I looked at something.  Why?  This is what it looked like.  And it was perfectly warm.
This past Sunday, we celebrated the birthday of my mother-in-law.  I know I've said nice things about her before, but I want to offer up this glimpse of who she is.  We happened to have dinner with them the Sunday before because of relatives in town.  As we were leaving I said, 'your birthday is next Sunday!  We should have you over for dinner.'.  Her response was 'oh I know you are busy.  Don't worry about it.  If it works out, that's ok, but we don't have to either.'  That's the kind of person she is.  Putting others before herself.  I am taking mental notes because I want to be that kind of mother-in-law should the opportunity present itself.
Here's a blast from the past.  I found this in the basement.
That is the Chairman!  That is me!  That is about the first time I think we ever sat next to each other.  We were on a raft trip for five days together in Utah.  He looks very, very serious.  I am smiling with my braces on my teeth in my mid-20's sporting my watermelon-colored shorts.  Little did I know that the terrorist-looking fella would one day be my true love and the father to our children.  Life is so interesting isn't it?

Happy Tuesday to you!
