Soft hearts

Mira came home from school yesterday saying they heard the song "Danny Boy" in music class. Then she said she felt very sad listening to the words as it made her think of baby Amara, Aunty Sue, and Ashley. Then Rayna said, we heard it too and I felt my eyes get wet. I'm so thankful they are tender to sadness...

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

  2. Huh. I have sung along to that song many a time and never really understood what it was saying or who exactly was the singer. Seems like it's a dead or dying person who is singing. I used to assume it was one of those love lost kind of songs. I learn something new every day.

  3. Never heard all the words to this one before. Loved catching up on your posts again...I've had bloggers block--both on posting & reading. Too much going on in my brain I guess.
