Spoiled milk?

Yesterday, we ran and got a few things at the store. Got home by 11:15. Went about our day and about 8 last night I spotted a gallon of milk that was in the back of the van. It was lukewarm, but didn't smell. Put in the fridge last night and this morning it tastes fine so I'm using it. Are we going to all fall down with sick bellies soon? Or would it be ok? I dunno.

  1. Oh, that's a long time. Personally I'm so parnoid about spoiled milk that I wouldn't have used it but Damon would have! Ha! They say if in doubt, throw it out but maybe it will be OK. You're brave. I don't like milk when it's good though!

  2. Go for it! If it is spoiled, you will KNOW it! Speaking from experience, since a gallon will last us a little more than a week, and sometimes ends up feeding the kitties.

Hmm, didn't people (a generation before us) drink sour milk, or buttermilk? But then you gotta remember, if they say you shouldn't, I say: really??

  3. How much does a gallon of milk cost? $3.69? Is it worth it to offset the expense of a visit to the doctor? Pitch the milk for pete sake!

  5. I say you're fine. A friend of mine who's a Home Economics teacher told me that milk doesn't spoil, as in making you sick..it might "rot" eventually, but you won't get sick from it. If it smells and tastes fine, it should be ok.
My 2 cents worth! But maybe you've thrown it out by now! :)

  6. We're almost through with the gallon. No sick stomachs! And I didn't pour $3.69 down the drain. If any off you out there know me, you'd know it would kill me to waste money - even if it is a tiny bit!

  7. I say go for it. You've got friends in laboratories that can diagnosis the bugs if necessary! I've done it more than once and how often do my kids leave it out on the table after breakfast. How often can I beat a dead horse....CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF!

  8. I'm all for drinking it too. If it smells and tastes OK, it's good. People in Europe drink their milk lukewarm as common practice. Are you European?

  9. I did that a couple of weeks ago, too. Left a gallon of milk setting out on the counter for 24 hours. I was amazed it didn't spoil... put it in the fridge and finished it out. Milk won't make you sick... even if it's sour. Unless you're allergic to it, of course.

  10. if you're ever in doubt, just use it in cooking, like pancakes, cake.. like buttermilk (probably originating because someone forgot the milk).
