Grandma A's Apple Cake

1 cup sugar (I use less... maybe 3/4 cup)
1/4 cup butter or shortening
Cream those together.
Add: 1 egg

Mix together: 1 cup flour
1/2 teas. nutmeg
1/2 teas. salt
1 teas. cinnamon
1 teas. soda

Add to sugar mixture. Then add 2 cups chopped/peeled raw apple. And chopped nuts of you like.

Put in greased 8x8 pan. Bake 15 min. at 350 and then 30 minutes at 325. Cool.

Caramel Sauce

1/4 cup butter (don't use margarine)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup Carnation milk

Bring to boil and stir constantly about 5 mninutes until thickened.

When serving, drizzle warmed caramel sauce over the cake. Enjoy!

  1. this is so yummy... the warmth and sweetness of fall contained in a dish! g'ma had lots of comfort food.. maybe it was the atmosphere she created. love and care.
